No SNS this week!

I am moving out of state and Dana and I both are going to be gone this
weekend, so there will be no Sit N'Stitch this weekend.

Dana will still be doing SNS after I move, but any of you that come
don't need us to be there to get together.

Have a Merry Christmas and Happy New year.

Thanks for all the great fun and friendship! I will miss all you SNS
friends.

Normally we sit back in the "nook" with the sofa. Come join us! We like new people, and if you are a stitcher it is even better!

Sorry we haven't posted anything since July.
We have had a few new memebers come and join us, and a few go missing.
We are still meeting at Starbucks on Kickapoo. (there are no other Starbucks in Shawnee)

We meet the 2nd and 4th Sat of each month from 1-3.

This month we will meet again Sep 22nd.

Oct will be
the 13th and the 27th.

junction of scenic Route 66 and 33, between Sapulpa, Oklahoma and
Kellyville, Oklahoma. July 28 and 29th

Tickets will be sold through out the entire event for a drawing for a
new Ashford Kiwi Spinning Wheel.

Saturday we will start at 9am with:

a.. Skein competition which will be judged Saturday evening , with all
Skeins offered for Silent Auction (proceeds to be donated to the Angel
Horse
Rescue program)
Special Rock Day in July on Saturday evening. If you wish to participate
in the rock day games, please bring a prize or two to donate for the
event.

Sunday morning the fun starts all over again with:

a.. Show and Tell at Breakfast
b.. Dirty Santa Gift Exchange. Bring a wrapped fiber gift and join in
the
fun.

Wooly Knob Fiber Mill
Roving and Lopi style yarns. Our niche is 'junked' fiber. We throw in
all
sorts of things like cotton and rayon. Each roving varies. It could be a
natural color with chenille 'junk' carded in or a dyed color with cotton
threads, or the whole kitchen sink. Same with the yarns.

We will be picking up fiber to be processed

Pricing: Our pricing system is simple! We charge on incoming weight.

Effective March 1, 2007, it's $7.50 a lb. for wool and/or other types of
fiber.

This includes all camelid fibers, mohair, angora, and plant fibers such
as
silk and cotton.

Pre-washed Fiber will still be $6.00 a lb, HOWEVER...

our definition of prewashed does not include anything washed in Orvis.
Any fiber washed in Orvis will be charged at $7.50 per lb.
A simple hot water bath will remove a great deal of lanolin and grease,
reducing incoming weight and saving you money.

If you define your fleeces as prewashed, we will also assume that you
have picked out any or all vegetation. We will not "monkey groom" prewashed
fiber.

Please bring your fleeces to be picked up in plastic bags so Matt and
Jamie don't have to rebag them.

Summer metting changes

During the summer is seems the Geiger Center isn't always open so we are going to be meeting at the Starbucks on Kickapoo. Everyone is super nice there and you can get a good cup of coffee I am told.

We had another new member, but since neither Dana or I where there we didn't get to meet her. I was out of town and I am not sure what happened to Dana.

So in two weeks we should be there, or that is the plan.

If you didn't come to the meeting, we missed you! We had one knew knitter this week. We held her down and gave her sticks and string and she is on her way. Kim wants to learn to knit socks! Go Kim.

We had two new knitters show up last time, Frane and Sherry, they both came back again. They are both knitters and crocheters.

Dana wasn't there again. She was off gaining her freedom. She claims there was a new apartment involved, but I'm not sure, I will be interrogating her later this week over dinner since she hasn't been able to come play for the last two meetings.

Don't forget about your handy dandy yahoo group. It comes with built in reminders of meeting and other knitters! We aren't too chatty, but we can offer help, patterns and just a good old time. Come join. It'll be fun!

Other news, I was asked by a fellow knitter/spinner of we would like a demo on Alpaca fleece to yarn! This will happen some time in the new few months. We will get a lesson on carding, spinning, ect! This will be a great learning opportunity and also a great opportunity to feel a little bit of heaven!

I will keep you posted on this.

Sat the 14th meet up

We had a great time, two new people, Frane and Sherry. Dana was out of town. I have been sick so the emails haven't been sent out with the info for the yahoo group ect. Where were given as a group a large tote of yarns, bags and some needles and crochet hooks. I will be going thru them as I can for things our grown group needs and can use.

We were alone for an hour on Saturday, which was ok with us because we got to knit and spin and that's always a good thing. But we were hoping to have visitors :(. We were able to snag two students, tie them up, and force them to learn to knit. Just Kidding. They asked us to teach them and we were very happy to. We've converted two more. hehe. Here's a pic.

Don't you want to join the fun? Next meeting is March 24th from 1-3. I hope to see some more of you there!

I have had a few people ask me how to get to the SNS as they were a little unclear with the driving directions.
Off of I-40 you get off on the Kickapoo exit if you are coming from the OKC area it is the first Shawnee exit. You then stay right and go down the highway for a few miles to the 240, Kickapoo spur exit. It will send you around and spit you off on the spur. Then go the Kickapoo street. (you won't be able to go any farther so you have to turn at the light) Turn left on to Kickapoo. GO North and you will come to OBU. It will be on your left side. There will be a light in the middle of the block, you will turn at the light. If you want my cell # in case you need help please email me.

I am excited about Saturday!

For those of you that do not know Shawnee well, or Oklahoma Baptist University's campus well here is a map...
I would put the address 500 W. University; Shawnee, Ok 74804 into mapquest to get there first, because I don't know where you will be coming from. Once you get to OBU's campus this map will help you out. (Kickapoo is an exit from I-40 Head south and you'll find University)

The GC is building number 14. There is parking in front of it down the alley between buildings 15 (Kerr Dorms) and 9 (WMU Dorms). You can also park in what is called the oval you'll see a big fountain in the middle of it. It is what buildings 1 (Shawnee Hall), 2 (Thurmond Hall), 3 (Wood Sicence), and 9( WMU Dorms) sit around.

When you walk into the Geiger Center (or GC) you will be in the Java City area. We will most likely be in the area where there are lots of couches. Unless they are full, then look for sticks and string being flung about.

Our Sit N' Stitch is located in Shawnee Oklahoma. We are about 30 miles from Oklahoma City on I-40. Our meeting will be at Oklahoma Baptist University in the Geiger Center.

Hello!
Welcome to the blog for the Shawnee OK Sit N' Stitch. We are still in the planning stages of our group, but it is all coming together and should be set up very soon.

Here is a little about our group.

Crafty Minx and I joined together to bring a Stitch group to Shawnee, which seems to be lacking in all things crafty and fiber related. It is sad to say we don't even have a craft store. There are no craft groups to speak of, or that we could find so our only option was to drive to surrounding cities, some times over and hour away.

Some are good, some are bad, and it is hard on a body to drive so long and so far for so little time to craft. So here we are.

We will have all the info up very soon as to where, when (you know why) and how, along with contact info. We have some neat things planned and Craft Minx is very cool and very good at all things crafty.

So add us to your faves and check back soon! We hope to have you join us.
